The chase was on

I loved watching monarch butterflies flit around the farm this summer. They seemed to be everywhere. Too bad none would pause long enough for me to get a good photo.

Last Friday a bunch of different butterflies flitted onto flowers in my yard. My friend Mary said these are called painted ladies.

If you were near you would have seen me contorting trying to catch a good photo of the visiting painted ladies. Here are two that I captured for posterity.

I’m happy they stopped by for a visit before moving on to their winter homes.

Don’t forget to come back for another visit next year pretty ladies.

Enjoying the season

Too much rain has put a damper on the best of days. Water and mud block our farm lane. Yet I am enjoying today’s warm, windy weather–I’m trying to take it all in, even the humidity, and keep it in my heart. That way I can bring it out mid-January and remember.

Last evening I raced outside with my cell phone to take a photo of the sunset. It was another day I’ll set in my heart.

As I was enjoying the sun setting over the cornfield, I saw another view of the sky.

I stepped down into the ditch and used the tops of the corn to frame the evening sky colors.

Hope you enjoy my view.

Nature’s beauty

I thought I’d share another deer photo taken on our critter cam.

This beauty came to munch on an apple and posed right in front of our camera.

That velvet will be coming off pretty soon. It will take a bit of time for his antlers to shed the outer coating.

I’m afraid his antlers will attract hunters.

I hope to see him again after hunting season.

BAM! right in the kisser

Going for a drive down our lane is very interesting some days.

Because of the tall corn growing on our farm, we don’t get a great view of the landscape, but we still enjoy our rides…well usually.

Today, a flying grasshopper flew right at me and hit me in the face. Actually, it hit me in my glasses. I was so happy I was wearing my glasses as I’m not sure if that grasshopper could have damaged me.

Also, Bob and I don’t talk much as we drive. Some bugs, like this grasshopper, could end up in one of our mouths. (Once I swallowed a Junebug! Yuck!)

I wanted to write this blog about getting hit by a grasshopper but had a hard time getting one to stand still long enough to take its picture.

I finally got this photo of two on the ground. I know it’s out of focus, but those bugs are fast. They don’t sit long enough to say ‘cheese’.

Bob and Sunny were on the grasshopper search with me, hunting slower ones that I could capture with my camera.

Just a word of warning, when driving out in the country, wear safety glasses or a helmet and keep your mouth shut.

Better safe than sorry.

Say “Cheese,” Sunny

Many children get tired of having their photos taken and don’t want to look at the camera. Well, I’ve found that dogs can act the same way.

Here are some photos of our dog, Sunny, when he didn’t want to look at me and my camera.

This one with his tongue out might be his comment on getting his photo taken–in reality he was chowing down a treat.

When I didn’t give up, Sunny turned his back on me.

Poor Sunny.
