Another pop-up

Bob and I were set up at the Seymour Farmer’s Market by 1:30. The market opened at 2, but there were already people walking around.

Even before two I made a sale and happily looked forward to the rest of our time at the market.

About the time of the official opening, Bob said was starting to rain. I thought he was crazy as I just checked my WeatherBug and it had nothing on the radar.

Guess what? It was raining, or at least sprinkling. I moved my books farther under our canopy. The sprinkle didn’t stop but speeded up. I had to cover the table with my books, but the rest of my stuff got rained on. It didn’t hurt the tiles or Rebecca’s trees.

No one shut down during the shower, though some did cover up their displays.

Can you tell that my table and painted ties are wet? No big problem though. After the rain stopped I wiped everything down, uncovered my dry books, and continued selling at the market.

The rest of the day was lovely. Only a small portion of Seymour got the pop-up shower. The rest of town stayed dry and didn’t realize they missed the shower.

Storm Alert!

I was sitting by my desk, finishing my next column, when a sharp tone emitted from our weather alert. The radio happens to be within 4 feet of my desk and I almost jumped out of my chair when it went off.

This alert gave me plenty of time to park my car inside the barn before the thunderstorm arrived.

I have to say that last Saturday’s alert almost didn’t come soon enough for Bob and me. We had been inside, out of the heat, when the alert sounded. Bob went to put the cart in and I quickly parked my car inside the barn as hail was a possibility, just like today.

We weren’t outside long and just got back inside the house when the storm hit. That really surprised us. Usually, we are given at least a half-hour’s warning, like we were today.

It used to be that one alert would come after another as a storm worked its way through the area. On the new weather alert radio we just set our county and only when our county is included in the warning or watch do we hear any piercing alert.

I recommend everyone have a weather alert radio. You don’t want to be caught up short if it’s time to take cover–it’s great to know that some cell phones send out bad weather alerts, too. On a trip, you may need more time to find shelter.

Green Bay Botanical Garden

There are many pretty places in Wisconsin. One that is not far from our home is the Green Bay Botanical Garden.

One lovely corner (there are many lovely corners) is this spot in the Kress Oval Garden. The statue is of George Kress playing his violin for his wife.

I always like it as it depicts love in later years….Too bad Bob doesn’t play the violin, or any instrument for that matter. If we ever had a statue of us together, we would be sitting on the bench together.

This old apple tree reminds me of those living on our farm as it has seen many years. A nice place to stop and ponder the ups and downs of life.

Today was another Saturday we were happy we didn’t have campers in our backyard. A Fast-moving thunderstorm that came through the area a bit ago would have raised havoc with campers and tents. Good thing it was just Bob and me here when it went through and we were safe in the house.
