Picture Perfect Day

Today I joined a group of women from the Outagamie County University of Wisconsin Extension – Association for Home and Community Education at their fall Picture Perfect program.

The people there were dedicated to repurposing cards and calendars.

Some of the women were taking old cards, cutting and pasting them together to form new cards.

I worked across from Lois Schwister. We and others were taking old calendar photos, putting them into plastic sleeves, and making flipbooks. These would eventually be used by people with dimension.

The repurposed cards are given to other people to use as they wish.

It was a good day to work with industrious, talented ladies who also made a great pot luck lunch.

I didn’t have to twist Bob’s arm too much to get him to go to an early movie today. We went with our friend Marilyn to the 10 am show at Bay Park Square to see the Downton Abbey movie.

It was a $5 Tuesday showing so the price was right. All we had to do was bring Bob’s pills along so he would be able to take them at 11 as scheduled.

We have watched all the TV episodes of Downton Abbey. It was great to see the characters again, living a different time and a different place.

I don’t think you had to have watched the TV episodes to enjoy this movie, but it helps. Women were the majority viewing the movie today, but Bob was not the only man there. There were 5 or 6 others.

Bob and I both recommend Downton Abbey the movie and also the television series.

I loved watching monarch butterflies flit around the farm this summer. They seemed to be everywhere. Too bad none would pause long enough for me to get a good photo.

Last Friday a bunch of different butterflies flitted onto flowers in my yard. My friend Mary said these are called painted ladies.

If you were near you would have seen me contorting trying to catch a good photo of the visiting painted ladies. Here are two that I captured for posterity.

I’m happy they stopped by for a visit before moving on to their winter homes.

Don’t forget to come back for another visit next year pretty ladies.

Freshly made coffee

I’ve been working on my alcohol ink tiles so I have more to bring and sell at Oneida Apple Fest in Green Bay tomorrow.

Bob’s Home remedy

Bob was the first one to tell me about this clotting agent. Years ago he asked me to save the pepper packets from our fast food order. He wanted them for his toolbox.

Black pepper will stop bleeding when applied to an open cut.

Many mechanics, farmers, and others who work with tools may know this trick,

Black pepper is naturally antibacterial so that’s another positive for this helpful aid.

I do not recommend this for a large wound, but those pesky small bleeding cuts seem suitable, especially when working far from other help.

I’ve known Bob to wrap a dirty rag around a cut and continue working after cutting himself. It had to be something big to get him in the house for help–oh yeah, if a cut was bloody when he got inside to help he often fainted. He hasn’t fainted at the sight of blood in a long time, so maybe he’s outgrown it.

Google for additional informational pepper uses–I’m no doctor, but I thought I’d pass along Bob’s suggestion.
