A non-blog blog

Working for hours outside means I didn’t have much time to post today. Instead, I made this short video.

I came inside to rest but before I put my feet up I’m posting this tiny update.

Tomorrow means other chores and adventures. Come back then to find out what I’m up to.

Listening to my neighbors

Not the mooing of cows today.

My other neighbors are talking early this morning.

Their calls aren’t melodious. Sandhill cranes speak in an ancient language, one heard by dinosaurs.

When you are out in the countryside, listen to the small chirps of little birds, but don’t forget to check out the calls of sandhill cranes.

Car-E takes a shower

It was time to fill the dog water bowl with filtered water. Car-E had to investigate.

Running water always catches his attention.

As he splashed at the stream of running water, I was splashed, too.

Just another day with my curious cat.

Gross roadside attractions

What catches your attention while driving Wisconsin country roads? This column from 1990 tells what our children saw and commented on.

Some may giggle at their reactions. Others may gag.

Time has passed and all have grown up, but roadside attractions like these continue to bring comments from my family, and now I include grandchildren, too.

Car-E’s annual checkup

At first, I thought we’d miss my cat’s physical appointment. I couldn’t find Car-E, but after searching the house, I located him in a closet. He must have slipped in when I was hanging laundry.

It wasn’t too hard getting Car-E into his pet carrier, but he sure didn’t want to come out. At the vet’s office, he puffed himself up and sent a ball of his hair flying loose.

This was just the first handful of fur that came off of Car-E. In the end, there was five times this amount..

The checkup didn’t take long.

Two inoculations brought Car-E up to date and set for the next three years. They gave me a rabies tag for him. That will go in the drawer as Car-E refuses to wear a collar.

No problems were reported by Dr. Jamie. There was one thing noted. Car-E weighed 15 lbs, 9 oz. and that made him a bit heavy. I guess he takes after me.

Car-E cried when back in the carrier but was extremely happy when I let him free at home. My good kitty then went upstairs and hid under my bed. He stayed there for the next couple hours and only came out until it was time for supper.
