I had the great idea of dehydrating regular sized marshmallows in my oven. I set the temp very low, loaded in the marshmallows, closed the door, and let them dehydrate.
It wasn’t long before I could smell burning marshmallows. I opened the door and found a disaster. My marshmallows didn’t dry. They melted and fell in gobs to the oven floor–no photo of disaster because I was too worried that I’d soon have a fire and too embarrassed.
No fire ensued. I caught the problem in time. It took a lot of work cleaning all the globs of white sweetness out of my oven.
Take this as a Public Service Announcement.
Do not try to dry regular size marshmallows in your oven! They melt.
A dedicated dehydrator does work.
To get crunchy, dry marshmallows, I set my Ninja air-fryer/dehydrator on dehydrate, set it for 4 hours and had success.
Once the machine stopped, I let the marshmallows cool before biting into their crisp, sweet whiteness.
This is better than waiting for Peeps to dry for months.
Just be careful how you try to dry your marshmallows. The small marshmallows will dry a lot faster.
Friday afternoon, Rachel, Dave, Arianna, Eli, and Wyatt came to camp over night on the farm.
Sunny joined the twins for a good brushing, 1/2 filling the yellow bucket with fur.
After setting up their tent, Eli helped his dad get a campfire going. Over the two days, hotdogs were cooked over this fire, as were a few potatoes and marshmallows for s’mores.
The three youngsters retired to the tent late in the evening, while we three adults watched stars appear and the moon rise.
Even though we continue to distance visit, it was another good time with part of my family.
My August 17th blog began: On August 2, I ordered a folding picnic table (Store name withheld at this point). It was to be delivered on the 8th, and then the 12, and then 13th….. Finally, it was to come today, the 17th, between 10 and 12.
A huge box arrived that day, but it wasn’t my picnic table. It was a heavy table top.
I struggled to get that tabletop back in the box. The store arranged to have it picked up on August 24th.
Again I was told my ordered picnic table was on the way, to arrive on Thursday, August 27th, which it didn’t. Instead, my children gifted me a picnic table for my birthday on the 29th.
On Tuesday, September 1, my ordered folding picnic table arrived!
No assembly was required, only unfolding.
It is smaller than the gifted picnic table in the photo background, as I expected. When I am mowing lawn I’ll be able to easily move it–the gift table is easy to move, too, unlike both old wood tables we’ve been using for many, many years.
I can now relax and thank Lowes for fixing the situation with the wrong table and getting the correct picnic table to me before the snow flies. I will be using it all fall and then easily fold it away for winter.
On my drive home the other day, I spotted this bald eagle. Since I was on a quiet country road, I stopped to take this photo. I zoomed in as best I could, snapping a quick picture before I spooked it and it flew away.
I didn’t have to go anywhere for the next photo.
A couple of my hens came looking for me.
I think they learned how to beg at the window from the cats who often lurk by the same window when it’s close to feeding time.
