A day for a special visit

Our daughter Rebecca and our son-in-law Andy came out to the farm for a visit this morning–yesterday they celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary.

Today they were nice enough to carry all the heavy bags out of my car: softener salt, cat food, bird food, cat litter–everything I bought at Fleet Farm yesterday weighed 40+ pounds each.

I thank them for their help and for the visit.

If that wasn’t enough, Rebecca brought a treat for me, one of her copper tree creations.

This new copper tree has stone leaves.

I’m always impressed with Rebecca’s copper tree artwork, especially this one because it is MINE!

More will soon be made and for sale. Maybe you’ll be lucky to buy one of your own.

Hoarding!

I couldn’t believe it if I didn’t see it for my self.

The shelves at the store were empty, even in Seymour!

I wasn’t in dire need, but I was concerned that none were left for the rest of us.

But then I found out it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Only toilet paper had been swept off the shelves.

Chocolate could still be found in all stores.

I will survive to eat chocolate another day.

(I understand all the hand sanitizers being bought up, but I really don’t understand the reason for the toilet paper hoarding.)

Something new and something/someone old

Today I went to the new coffee shop, JSA Coffee Roasters, 406 N Main St, Seymour. There I met an old friend, Jane.

We sat and sipped on our drinks, catching up for about two hours.

My drink of choice was a hot chocolatey coffee. Jane had an extra-strong coffee on ice.

My yummy coffee

Besides coffee, there are plenty of teas to chose from.
These coffee pods came home with me so I can do a personal tasting and see what I like best.

There are many flavors of coffee and teas to drink. I’ll try one of my pods soon and keep notes on which flavor I like best.

Meeting an old friend at a new coffee shop was a good thing to do on a gloomy/rainy day. Both made me smile.

Cats yowling

It was early morning. I was fixing food for all our pets: Sunny, Othello, and Cruella inside; barn cats outside.

As I worked to mix the kibble and canned food for the outside cats, I heard yowling. Squinty and the neighbor cat were having a face-off.

They stood just outside the kitchen window, growling at each other, nose to nose.

No fur flew today–it rarely does.

I brought out the food for all the cats and these two separated.

I hope to trap both this spring and have them neutered. Hopefully, that will end their squabbles.

Chickens, free again!

It was such a nice afternoon, I decided it was time to let our chickens run free.

Three hens and two cats

Three hens came running out the door as soon as I swung it open. It took the other two a few more minutes before they joined their sisters.

There are no bugs to eat, but the girls had fun scratching around. They went near the wild bird feeders to peck at seeds that were dropped by the bluejays.

Near enough to the house now, but the next time I looked for them I couldn’t find them.

The hens probably went under a comfy bush that is in the backyard. They hid there last summer.

I expect they will head to roost as soon as the sun heads toward the horizon. At least, that’s their usual roosting schedule. I hope they stick to it.
