Up, up, and away starts our day

Burger Fest has begun. Bob and I saw the beginnings when balloons took off from Seymour early this morning.

Since the hot air balloons went north we got a glimpse of them from our upper deck.

Bob watches as balloons are spotted above distant woods.

We watched them from a distance, but that was fine.

It was a lovely morning. Perfect for ballooning.

A zoomed-in photo

At 11 I’ll be at the parade with Rachel and her family.

Tonight is another glow. An exciting time in Seymour

Enough already

Yesterday I blogged about all the water down our lane. Well, you can double that and more.

If I hadn’t dumped out our rain gauge, the water would have flowed over the top.

We will not be able to get down our lane for quite a while. Unless Bob goes with the tractor to rescue it, we will not be able to check our critter cam.

Of course, just like the last storm, we ended our day with a rainbow.

Just before dark.

In between bouts of rain, I had to rush out to save 2 hens. The door had shut with a gust of wind. All the others had made it inside, except these two old girls. They were soaked, but managed to join the others after I opened the door for them. Poor things. I then had to wait for the rain to slow again before I could get back to the house.

We’ve already doubled our average rain for August and it’s only the 8th. Ugh!

Lane closures

Bob and I knew what we were going to find in our farm lane, but we decided to take a ride anyway.

We had over two and a half inches of rain over the last few days. All that rain couldn’t soak in so it had to go somewhere. One place it ended up was across our lane.

Bob was able to drive our two-wheel-drive cart around this puddle but not the next one.

Lane closed

This looked to be a hazardous drive. Bob thought he could get through once, but he couldn’t guarantee we’d be able to return. We turned around.

Maybe after some more soaking-in time, we’ll be able to get back to where our critter camera is set up for nature photos. All we can do now is wait and watch.

quick quiz

This photo was taken during Camp Manzke last weekend. Can you identify the word depicted?

Today was another Saturday we were happy we didn’t have campers in our backyard. A Fast-moving thunderstorm that came through the area a bit ago would have raised havoc with campers and tents. Good thing it was just Bob and me here when it went through and we were safe in the house.

Sharing beauty

I have bought a number of flower bulbs and tubers over the years, but my favorite ones have come from friends.

Gardeners like to share their beauties with others. It’s their way of adding color to the world.

This dahlia probably has a name, but I forgot it. Flower names don’t mean so much to me. I’m sure my friend, Bridget Staley, would know. There’s a lot of flower and garden information in her head. She’s a Master Gardener and the tubers for this dahlia came from Bridget.

Dahlias are as big as my open hand.

I lost a lot of my perennials over the winter. Either the cold killed them or some hungry creature ate the bulbs. Having dahlias blooming here today is a wonderful gift. Thanks for the gift and sharing the beauty, Bridget.
