The road christening

In 1987 our blacktop road was finally finished. This column tells of the joyous reaction by the Gardner Road children.

It started out as fun but poor Rachel ended up bloody.

Listen and hear what happened after the road crew packed up and pulled away.

If it wasn’t Rachel who ended up hurt, it would have been someone else. She was the unlucky one this day.

Until next time, that’s it from Sunnybook Farm.

The Search for Peace and Quiet

For years, with a house filled with children, I was always looking for peace and quiet. Now, I have too much peace and quiet.

This 1987 column tells about life on Sunnybook Farm when children rulled and Bob worked too many hours.

As a single mother during summer and fall, some days I felt like I was going crazy.

Here’s a sample of my life back then.

I don’t know that I would go back to those frantic days, but memories are good and I’ve got plenty of them.

Until next time, that’s it from Sunnybook Farm.

Lawn Jenga

The blocks went up and up, wobbling a little with each move.

And then the inevitable happened.

Rachel lost.

More Jenga builds went up that evening. Eli, taller than Harrison, helped his competition when Harrison could no longer reach the top of the wood stack.

Camp Manzke 2021 — more work than play

Too much went on this weekend to put in a short blog, but I will give you a couple hints of the fun/work that took place on Sunnybook Farm.

One of my grandchildren taking his turn working tractor hydraulics as adults worked the woodsplitter for more campfire wood.

Campfire time with three grandsons, Wyatt, Harrison, and Eli.

Seven of my eleven grandchildren saying goodnight to the setting sun.

There was so much that happened I can’t get my head around it all.

We cleaned up a lot around the farm with so much more to do. I can’t thank my family for all the work they did this weekend.

I will now try to write a more complete column about Camp Manzke 2021. You’ll be able to read more about all the work and fun we had over the weekend when I’m finished.
