Early Balloon Ascension

I was up early and suddenly remembered that the balloons were in Seymour this weekend. After feeding my pets, I drove to town.

As the sun rose in the sky, the balloons were unfolded and grew with air, first cool and finally hot air.

They went east, so not toward my home this year.

When all the balloons were up in the air, the area around the takeoff grounds seemed so quiet.

I did not follow them, but went home for my breakfast.

Early morning viewing is the best.

Until next time, that’s it from Sunnybook Farm.

Past Burger Fest

One year we had balloons land on our farm two days in a row, a record as we are northwest of Seymour. They usually don’t come this way.

Below, the pink balloon was flown without a basket. The pilot rode the gas tank!

It floated in soon after our wheat harvest was finished.

Burgers and balloons will come to Burger Fest on August 14, 2021, in Seymour Wisconsin.

This was 2014

Children of all ages love the parade. It starts this year at 10:45.

A sticky situation

Weather-related post: too damp for most doors.

It can be a tough job opening or closing doors here. The rain and humidity have caught up to the woodwork and expanded everything so I have to work going in and out.

Even the bathroom door is hard to budge sometimes.

Another rain shower arrived as I am writing this. I think we have enough precipitation for a while. I’d gladly share some with those suffering from drought. Too much or too little isn’t a good thing on a farm.

So long Olympics, until next time

I don’t have cable tv so all the Olympics I watched was on the local NBC station. That was enough, but I wonder what I missed.

It is over for now. Everyone is going home. Here are a couple of my thoughts as the game’s end.

My home seems quieter than usual now that things have ended.

My wish is that the world continues with the kindness displayed at the games. We can all hope and pray that this spreads around the world.

Until next time, that’s it from Sunnybook Farm.

One dollar bet

Winning the lottery would have helped with our farm debt. I was sure I had the numbers.

As usual, Bob had his doubts. Listen to this column from June 1990 to hear the results.

I rarely purchase any lottery tickets. When the prize was half a billion, I did buy one. Not even one of my numbers was called.

Dangling big prizes in front of people has everyone standing in long lines ready to put down money better spent on bread and milk, or at least a candy bar.
