Take a message, please

Phone messages can be important. Too bad this one Bob took in February 1990 was almost lost because of his bad handwriting.

I hope you enjoy this retelling of an old column.

Brothers — written and read by Susan Manzke

This column from 1990 shows how two boys, Russ 10 and Rob almost 15, shared a bedroom.

It wasn’t always easy.

I loved coming across this story about my boys. It says a lot about them.

They survived childhood. Now there aren’t any dirty sock issues as they are grown men and good friends.

A 49-hour escape

This 1987 column retells a weekend when Bob and I ran away from home. Children remained at home while we went to the UP, a rare escape.

I can’t remember another vacation Bob and I took without our children. This was it!

Sometimes we did escape from the kids, but that usually meant we were driving machinery around the farm. Those hours were not vacations, but farm work.

Susan along Lake Superior

Such was life on Sunnybook Farm.

Taking leave – a 1987 column

This columns tells of plans to go away for the weekend.

Of course, it shows how much of a worry-wort I was… and am.

The children are grown, but I’m still a worry-wort.
