Mowing continues

A friend asked me to show another clip of mowing in a different section of the farmyard.

Here it is.

I turned another corner and now heading west around the shed.

The ferns along the shed are past their beautiful spring green. Fall is near at hand.

Our light-filled days are shortening fast.

Enjoy the nice days that are given to us.

Mowing

I mowed lawn today. About half done before I took a break.

Not a bad job when using the zero-turn mower.

Trees are the only things that bother me when I’m mowing. Low branches sneak up on me and too often I have to duck.

Weekend helpers

Sometimes I can just sit back and watch someone else work. This past weekend that’s just what I did.

On Saturday, son Russell and his son Harrison came for a visit.

Russell put in new belts, starter, battery, and I don’t know what all in the cart.

At the end of the day, Russell took a ride on his dad’s zero-turn mower.

Last year, Russ built the framework for the mower so his dad could do one of his favorite things, mow. Bob was so pleased that he could actually work all last summer because of this creation of Russell’s.

I didn’t know this, but after all that he built for Bob last year, this ride on June 6th was the first time Russell drove the machine himself and he enjoyed zooming around the yard, too.

Sunday, Rob and family arrived for a visit and a bit of work, too.

While Rob did some needed weed whacking, Caleb mowed.

Caleb got to a few patches of grass on our mound system that I missed.

Meanwhile, Aryana got to know my new kitten.

We kept our distance, visiting outside, but that worked.

I wore myself out just being happy.

Father and sons

When Rachel, Dave, Eli, Arianna, and Wyatt visited over the weekend, it was to camp out in the backyard, but it wasn’t all fun and games.

Dave took a look at one of Bob’s tractors to see if he could get it running–there are tricks to get it going and Dave figured them all out.

He then drove it over to the log splitter Bob and his dad made many years ago. Hooking up the hydraulics would have been a challenge, but I happened to remember a bit so that Dave had a good start.

Eli is on the tractor seat. Dave is putting logs on the splitter. Wyatt watches from the sidelines.

Once the tractor and log splitter were working, Dave took a position in front to set in the logs and Eli sat on the tractor, working the hydraulic levers.

Father and son worked well together. Since the running tractor made a lot of noise, most directions between the two were hand signals.

It was so good to see the machines working again.

Now we have more firewood drying out for future campfires thanks to Dave and Eli.
