A sweet gift from an 8-year-old

Some days a mother gets a sweet surprise. This 1988 column talks about the little gifts my children gave to me. Little Russell became the feature child when he was eight.

Listen and hear what my boy gave to me making an ordinary day Mother’s Day.

I would have forgotten about Russell’s gift if I hadn’t written it down. Remember to make a note of things that you feel great. It can be anything.

Surprises like this one are a keepsake.

Unusual toy for Car-E

Car-E found a foam sponge in the kitchen cabinet and he went wild.

Since it was his birthday, I let him play with the white sponge.

He tore bits off and it wasn’t white long, but Car-E had a great time on his birthday.

Now I know what to give Car-E when he needs a fun treat.

A Sunny dog video

Sunny hasn’t been videoed as much as Car-E so I thought I’d remedy that today.

I couldn’t figure how to record us together. I finally decided that getting down on Sunny’s level was the best way to accomplish this.

Of course, Car-E had to photobomb us. I turned him as quickly as I could so you didn’t too much cat-butt in your face.

I did end the video before getting up off the floor. I assure you that you wouldn’t want to watch that struggle.

A new star

Even though I’m an introvert, I have pushed myself to take steps in front of an audience.

This column from 1986 tells of my first attempt at acting. I was afraid, but even so, I went in front of that audience and became the nosy old lady from across the hall–it was a fun part.

Many of my friends worked on this play. Seeing them succeed in other productions made me want to give it a try, too.

A minor character was the best way to start. For me, it helped me come out of my shell.

A fast cat

I enjoy watching Car-E play, but he is hard to video. He’s just too fast.

Car-E is playing with a marble today. He’s here and there and everywhere chasing that glass ball.

I caught some of his play before Car-E left the room, following the marble into places unknown.
