Whitetail deer

It was half past six. I was late for a meeting at the library. These two crossed Cemetery Road ahead of me.

Even though I was late, I took the time to take this short video.

If you are not used to driving in the country, remember to watch for the second deer. It will come out of the ditch, following the first, and take you by surprise.

Stay alert. Stay safe. Keep an eye out for Wisconsin wildlife.

Toad vs puppy

This hopper lives along the fence line. Stella came upon it today and this is what she did.

She never got close enough to the toad to cause it harm. That was the best outcome for both.

Hummingbird at feeder

The hummingbird sounds like a bumblebee. The loud bird sound on this video is from a neighboring bird, not this little guy.

When I refill this feeder I boil 1 cup of water and add 1/4 cup of sugar (4 to 1). It dissolves into a clear liquid and needs no color added to it. It is cooled to room temperature before being added to the feeder.

I’m so happy that this new feeder does not allow bugs to get inside, yet the hummingbirds can get their fill without a problem.

A young masked bandit

This little fellow didn’t show up while the family was camping in the backyard. He/it waited until it was quiet here.

It came with its mother before, but this evening it was on its own.

After munching on the last cat foot, it went off by itself.

Feeding the blue jays

I bought this spring peanut feeder just for my blue jays. Too bad they have not taken to it, even after months of it hanging on the porch.

So I adapt and put the peanuts out where they want to eat.

Maybe they will discover the hanging spring peanut feeder eventually.

I always thought blue jays were smart birds. They have proved me wrong.
