So long Olympics, until next time

I don’t have cable tv so all the Olympics I watched was on the local NBC station. That was enough, but I wonder what I missed.

It is over for now. Everyone is going home. Here are a couple of my thoughts as the game’s end.

My home seems quieter than usual now that things have ended.

My wish is that the world continues with the kindness displayed at the games. We can all hope and pray that this spreads around the world.

Until next time, that’s it from Sunnybook Farm.

One dollar bet

Winning the lottery would have helped with our farm debt. I was sure I had the numbers.

As usual, Bob had his doubts. Listen to this column from June 1990 to hear the results.

I rarely purchase any lottery tickets. When the prize was half a billion, I did buy one. Not even one of my numbers was called.

Dangling big prizes in front of people has everyone standing in long lines ready to put down money better spent on bread and milk, or at least a candy bar.

How should I sign off of this blog?

Here’s my question of the day. How should I sign off when ending a video recording?

I’m looking for something that is ‘me’.

All reasonable ideas will be considered. At least, I will think about them.

Nothing tasteless, please.

Now you have your assignment.

I look forward to reading your suggestions.

Cuckoo Clock is ticking

Usually, you set a clock and that’s it. It goes. A cuckoo clock is different. One day it speeds up and the next it slows down. I’m always fussing with mine. It’s like a pet needing attention.

Of course, pulling the weights keeps it going, remembering that chore is the only way it keeps time.

The dangling weights are hooked up a bit here. Car-E wanted to play with them, but tucked up halfway he mostly ignores them. When I pull them down in the morning, and he’s attracted to the wiggling chain and metal pine cone. It’s time to distract that cat with another toy.

Once in a while, this cuckoo clock stops for no reason at all. Only after some attention can I get it running again. I sure miss it when it stops ticking.

A quick fridge fix

Eggs froze in my refrigerator even though they were not in the freezer.

With the help of daughter Rachel and grandson Eli, we removed the frozen food from the freezer for a short time. When cleared out, Rachel used a hair dryer to melt an ice blockage. When melted, the circulation of the machine started working again.

Family may not want to stop by for a visit. I always seem to have a chore for them, but at least when we work together we visit, too.

I also enjoy just sitting with my family and sipping a drink while we visit, too.
