The cone dilemma

Stella started with a post-operative shirt. It wasn’t until she shredded a section in the rear of the shirt that I decided we needed more. First, came a plastic cone.

That plastic cone didn’t work for Stella. She hated it and began tearing it apart. That’s when she got her mouth stuck and I had to remove the cone from around her neck.

Though the shirt keeps her belly covered, I wasn’t sure if she’d let it stay. That’s when I added this blue neck piece.

This blowup device seemed to have worked the best. She can move, eat, and drink without my help. (The brand I bought: BENCMATE Protective Inflatable Collar for Dogs and Cats – Soft Pet Recovery Collar Does Not Block Vision E-Collar)

I’m trying to keep my puppy healthy and happy, The inflatable collar was needed to keep her comfortable, though she’s still wearing her shirt, too.

Stella and I can’t wait to have her spaying stitched removed. The ten days ahead will test us both, but there’s an end in sight.

Stella finds a cat toy

The cone is gone. Stella destroyed it, but she still has her post-spaying shirt, well, mostly.

The cats haven’t played with this toy in months. It disturbed Stella when the ball moved inside, yet she couldn’t get it out. That’s what the barking is about.

She kept barking at it so I put it away and gave her one of her chew toys. She settled down and the barking stopped until she heard herself on this video. She was sure another dog had come for a visit.

Sometimes a dog barking on TV or another odd sound will get her barking again. She has a sharp bark and she uses it to tell me she needs to go outside.

Just another day with my growing puppy.

Stella’s still playing

It took her a while to figure out how to play, but she did it.

Life is different for Stella, the cats, and me. It will get back to normal after her post-operation time.

I know she will be happy when she can run again. Two weeks feels like a long time, but we’re a few days into that time already.

Right now life is what it is.

Poor Stella

Stella left her shirt alone the first day, but that didn’t last.

I added a cone the following day so she couldn’t get at her stitches.

Two weeks of torture are ahead for both of us.

We’ll get through this, but neither of us will be happy while we work through post-operation life.

Stella and her toys

Stella has favorite toys. Her preferences change from day to day, hour to hour.

Some toys I set aside so they seem new when I bring them out again.

Stella loves her squeaky bones. The bones carry the smell of bacon. They only last so long because she squeaks them so much.

Today her attention is on this green ball, though it doesn’t go into her crate. It’s not special enough.

Stella always wants that soft white pull in her crate when she sleeps at night.

Right now, she’s at my feet as I write. It’s time for a little puppy nap.
