Charlie goes sledding

Reading Part 2 of Chapter One of Chicken Charlie’s Year.

Sledding can be fun, but not for Charlie this time.

Many of the stories of this novel had origins in my dad’s stories, but not this one.

My sister Karen was the one who slid down on her butt, being pulled by her tights that were caught on the sled runner. That day was Karen’s birthday. We were pulling sleds down the back road with our horses. I was riding Goldy with a rope leading to a sled. Our cousin was on her horse, pulling another sled. Poor Karen walked home through the fields, hiding her ripped pants with her coat.

Many real happenings were used in this novel. Names were changed to protect the innocent and to make a better story.

A reading from Chicken Charlie’s Year

In the first chapter of this novel, we find Charlie just after Christmas 1932. His new long johns play a pivotal part in this chapter.

Charlie and his friend, Wally are heading out to go sledding.

My next reading will include their sledding adventure.

Until next time, that’s all from Sunnybook Farm.

Susan’s novel rendition of Broken Cookies

Each chapter of my novel Chicken Charlie’s Year is a story in itself.

Today I’m reading my version of Dad’s childhood story about getting broken cookies.

I hope you enjoyed the portion I read.

Susan reads as Car-E plays

If nothing else you may want to watch this video to see Car-E trying to steal the show.

In 1986, my first novel was published by Doubleday. Its title is NEVER BRING HER ROSES. This is what I wrote about during that exciting time.

You can still get my novel on Kindle: https://www.amazon.com/Never-Bring-Her-roses-Romance-ebook/dp/B00HYLAD28/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=Susan+Manzke&qid=1613407558&sr=8-11

Do not accidentally click on the $902.81 one offered on Amazon! That’s some crazy person out there trying to make a buck.

I actually have a few hardcover books left that I sell for $10. In case you’re interested email me at sunnybook@aol.com or pick one up at Sissy’s in Seymour.

I think Car-E is the star of the show.
