A hair-raising experience

This 1990 column involves big sister, Rebecca (Becky) and little sister Rachel.

It’s a good thing I wrote this down or I wouldn’t have remembered it.

Rachel says she remembers this disaster that happened when she was seven.

Saving family stories is a special thing to do for yourself and your family.

Charity and love and crazy kids

It was 1990. Our house was filled with children. Charity and love didn’t always prevail.

Giggling in a church isn’t just for children. Adults do it too, sometimes.

I hope you enjoy the retelling of this column

Remembering time with Bob

This column from 1990 reminds me of times Bob and I struggled to find time together.

It took years, but eventually, Bob and I had all kinds of time together. We even took a couple of vacations.

I’m missing those special times with him today, but at least I have the memories.

The contestants

My children were having a contest in this column from January 1990. They needed me as the tiebreaker. Tell us, Mom, who was the sickest?

I know who was the most tired. Me, that’s who. After taking care of a houseful of sick kids, I needed a rest.

Times haven’t changed. A house filled with children will always battle illnesses one after another. I just happened to write about ours.

Brothers — written and read by Susan Manzke

This column from 1990 shows how two boys, Russ 10 and Rob almost 15, shared a bedroom.

It wasn’t always easy.

I loved coming across this story about my boys. It says a lot about them.

They survived childhood. Now there aren’t any dirty sock issues as they are grown men and good friends.
