Full of energy

It was my grandson, Harrison, who was full of energy. Not me.

Watching him playing actually tired me out.

I also visited with his dad and mom and uncle and aunt in Menasha.

It turned out to be a lovely day to spend with family.

Pig’s revenge

I love sharing my dad’s stories. This one is about butchering a pig, a job he hated.

Even in the city people raised chickens and a pig or two in their backyard in the 1930s. This is one story about a pig incident.

The cat that came for my video today is Cruella. She wasn’t happy about being kept in my arms and immediately left, voicing her opinion.

I hope you enjoyed my reading of Dad’s story. We never raised pigs when I was a kid. Dad had enough of them when he was growing up.

Art project today at Swanstone Gardens

Here’s a very short video of me working on my rain chain today.

Rebecca was working right next to me in the class led by David Calhoon.

Our next project will be the short, decorative rain chains, but that may have to wait until next spring.

Lending to a 9-year-old

This 1986 column features Becky (Rebecca).

It brought a smile to me today as I remembered this family story. I’m so glad I saved it in my column.

You don’t have to have a weekly column to save family stories. Just pick up a pen and write your memories down. Later they will bring you joy … of course, others will not always bring joy, but family stories will brighten your day.

A time to share

If I hadn’t written this in a column, I would never have remembered any of the day. I don’t remember what class I took that fall, maybe because I was half asleep during the class. But that’s only a small part of this happening. Listen and hear what I was sharing.

Bob isn’t mentioned as he was working his long night shift at Seymour Canning Company. That took him away from the family well into October and then harvest took his attention.

Memories are good to save and share. I hope you consider saving some of your own.

Until next time, that’s it from Sunnybook Farm.
